Who Attended the Opening

The event was attended by Mayor Pavlína Springerová, Director of the Ukrainian Institute in Prague Rostyslav Prokopyuk, and the Head of International Policy Research at the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine Volodymyr Yelchenko.

At the opening, Rostyslav Prokopyuk emphasized the role of culture during wartime and thanked the Czech side for their support of Ukraine:

“Art is also a weapon. Today we gathered here to show that Ukrainian culture is alive and fighting. These works are emotions, pain, and hope for victory.”

Representatives of the Czech side also highlighted the importance of cultural cooperation between Ukraine and the Czech Republic and their support for Ukrainian voices in Europe.

What the Exhibition Features

The exhibition helps visitors critically reflect on the causes of Russian aggression and its consequences, while preserving the memory of how ordinary life is shattered when war arrives. The display features works related to war, human loss, destruction, and the experience of Ukrainian society during the full-scale invasion.

The exhibition has previously been shown in other European cities — as we reported earlier, its previous iteration in Prague drew wide international attention. The international response to the exhibition confirmed the importance of such initiatives in drawing attention to Russia’s crimes.

When and Where to Visit

The exhibition runs until May 21 (excluding Saturdays and Sundays).

Venue: Primátorský sál, Velké náměstí 1, 1st floor, Hradec Králové.
