Pylyp Orlyk’s Birthday Anniversary: Foundation Holds Social Media Challenge
To mark the 354th anniversary of Pylyp Orlyk’s birth, the Foundation held a challenge on Facebook and Instagram. From October 21 to 27, participants answered questions and solved tasks devoted to the Hetman’s life, his correspondence and the Constitution of 1710.

New tasks appeared on the Foundation’s pages every day. Instead of the usual list of historical dates, there were searches for the recipients of letters, scattered quotations to be put back together, and questions whose answers served as clues. In this way, participants could test their knowledge and take a closer look at Orlyk through his writings and political ideas.
One task asked participants to identify whom the Hetman was writing to. Another was to assemble a phrase from his diary out of separate fragments. In the task about the Constitution, the correct answers yielded letters that, in the end, spelled the word “PRAVO” (LAW).
The different formats combined historical knowledge with attentiveness and logic: participants had to recognize historical figures, compare facts and find connections between clues. By the fifth day of the challenge, the number of correct answers had reached its highest since the start.
The winners received George Doerty’s book “The Beast in the Machine” from the Nash Format publishing house. The books have already been sent to the challenge winners today. Thank you to everyone who took part, searched for answers and discovered the history of Pylyp Orlyk together with us!
The challenge was part of the Foundation’s events for the 354th anniversary of Pylyp Orlyk’s birth. In addition, on October 21 the Foundation held a panel discussion “The Butterfly Effect of Orlyk’s Constitution”, devoted to how the principles laid down in the Constitution of 1710 resonate today.
