The exhibition includes 25 works created by Ukrainian children and youth who live, study, and pursue art in Kyiv under conditions of full-scale war. The exhibition presents a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Ukrainian art of vytynanka and continues a two-year exhibition project, within which the collection has been presented in museums across Ukraine.
A distinctive feature of the works is the combination of a multi-layered structure, a gauze base, openwork cutting, and light effects. Through the interplay of light and shadow, the authors create compositions in which traditional ornamental motifs are combined with a contemporary artistic vision.
The vytynankas were made using the original technique of artist Yuliia Pidkurhanna (Skrypka), a teacher at the art department of Children’s Art School No. 5 and mentor to the children. Her works are also included in the exhibition.
The exhibition in Chrudim takes place within the framework of the BC Youth Connect project, aimed at developing international contacts and youth interaction through culture and art.
The initiative is led by the non-profit organization “Ruta” with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation.
The opening of the exhibition is organized by the Business Academy of the city of Chrudim, with the support of the British Council in the Czech Republic, within the framework of the BC Youth Connect project.
The “Generation of Light” project offers an opportunity to present the works of young Ukrainian artists in Czechia and to convey, through art, the experience of a generation that continues to learn and create during the war.
The “Generation of Light” exhibition will run until October 9, 2026.
