“Koreni ta Kryla: A History That Unites” in Prague: Second Enrollment

Following the successful implementation of the first season and numerous requests from educators and activists, the Foundation is continuing the project and inviting new teams from Czechia and other European countries to take part.

The program «Koreni ta Kryla: A History That Unites» has become a platform where contemporary approaches to teaching the history of Ukraine are born, a professional community is being formed, and new partnerships are being created among Ukrainian educational organizations abroad. It brings together those who help Ukrainian children not lose their connection to history, culture, and identity, despite living and studying outside Ukraine.

The program was developed by Natalia Omelchuk — author of the educational project «Memories in Boxes,» which has for many years helped Ukrainian teachers work with complex historical topics through modern interactive methods.

«We saw just how great the demand is for quality teaching of Ukrainian history among Ukrainian educational communities abroad. We received a great deal of positive feedback from program participants and even more questions about whether there would be a new intake. Fortunately, we have the opportunity to continue this work and invite new teams to take part. After all, the question of preserving children’s historical memory remains no less relevant today than it was a year ago,» — emphasizes the author of the program «Koreni ta Kryla: A History That Unites,» Natalia Omelchuk.

The program will run for the duration of the academic year (September 2026–June 2027) and will consist of five in-person meetings in Prague, regular online mentoring support, and the practical implementation of the knowledge gained within participants’ own organizations.

The program includes:

• four in-person trainings in Prague;
• regular online meetings with mentors (approximately twice a month);
• supervision and consultations;
• monitoring visits to participating organizations;
• exchange of experience with colleagues from different countries;
• planning future joint projects;
• a review of the results of the annual program.

«For us, this program is an investment in the future of Ukrainian children who are growing up outside Ukraine today. We want them to have the opportunity not only to know the facts of history, but also to feel a connection to their country, understand its values, and shape their own Ukrainian identity. The first year of the program confirmed that modern teaching methods and strong partnerships between educational teams truly work. That is why we are continuing the program and opening a new intake,» — noted the program director of the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation, Yaryna Yasynievych.

Themes of the in-person modules

Over the course of the year, participants will work on four thematic blocks:

September 18–20, 2026
The «Memories in Boxes» teaching methodology, using the example of the «Introduction to History» course for children aged 9–12.

November 13–15, 2026
Human rights and freedoms during war.

January 22–24, 2027
The «Memories in Boxes. Discussion» course for teenagers.

March 12–14, 2027
Ethnopedagogy as an educational and developmental resource.

After the training cycle concludes, a final meeting of participants will take place in June 2027 (dates to be confirmed: June 11–13 or June 25–27)

The program invites applications from:

• Ukrainian schools;
• civic organizations;
• educational initiatives;
• cultural and educational centers,

that work with Ukrainian children in Czechia and other European countries.

The organization must:

• have experience in educational activity;
• work or be ready to work with a Ukrainian studies component;
• be ready to implement the course starting this academic year for at least two groups of children aged 8–12 and 13–16.

Important!

The Foundation supports not individual people, but the development of educational teams.

That is why each organization must submit two participants, who will undergo training together over the course of the year. Participation in all scheduled events of the mentoring program is mandatory.

This approach makes it possible to turn the knowledge gained into part of the organization’s systemic work and to ensure its further development.

Participants also take on the following commitments:

• attend all training modules;
• take part in online meetings;
• run the «Memories in Boxes» course for children as part of completing the training.

The organizers provide the training and methodological materials.

10 organizations will be selected for the program, with two representatives from each. In total, 20 participants will undergo the training. By submitting an application, you agree to be present at all modules of the program.

All in-person modules will take place in Prague (Czech Republic).

For participants traveling from other cities or countries, the organizers provide compensation for accommodation and travel expenses (no more than the equivalent of 100 euros round trip per person per visit, subject to submission of travel documents).
