Foundation Advances Russia’s Expulsion from the UN Amid Escalating Attacks

On May 19, 2026, an emergency session of the UN Security Council took place in New York, convened by Ukraine in response to a sharp escalation of Russian strikes against civilian population and critical infrastructure. Ihor Kharchenko, Senior Consultant of the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, was present at the session.

Massive Strikes and Ukraine’s Demands

The central topic of the session was the ongoing wave of drone and missile strikes over the past week. The Ukrainian side stated that between May 4 and 11 alone, Russia launched approximately 600 strike drones and 16 ballistic missiles, and on May 13 — over 800 more UAVs.

Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Andriy Melnyk, described this as “an unprecedented escalation of barbaric attacks” against Ukrainian civilians. Ukraine is demanding a stronger international response and additional pressure on Russia.

Foundation Intensifies #unrussiaUN Campaign

The Pylyp Orlyk Foundation is intensifying its activities within the #unrussiaUN initiative. Inside the UN, arguments are being circulated regarding the illegitimacy of Russia’s position as a permanent member of the Security Council — a seat it usurped in circumvention of the UN Charter. As we previously reported, Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Foundation are jointly working on steps to challenge this status.

The Pylyp Orlyk Foundation extends its gratitude to Permanent Representative Andriy Melnyk for his support of this cooperation, which is of critical importance for the country.
