Ukraine’s Place in the New World: Kyiv Discussion on Defense Tech and AI
On April 18, 2026, at 4:00 PM, a public discussion titled “Ukraine’s Place in the New World” will take place in Kyiv, focusing on Ukraine’s role in the global security and technological landscape. At the center of the conversation are the opportunities and obstacles Ukraine faces in entering world markets for defense technology, artificial intelligence, and GovTech.

Organizers and Purpose
The event is organized by the Kyiv Institute of National Interest in partnership with the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation. The discussion aims to define Ukraine’s place in the new architecture of global security, where technology, the defense industry, and digital sovereignty are becoming key factors of influence.
Contemporary geopolitical developments — in particular, events in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region — open new opportunities for Ukraine to integrate into international markets and partnerships. At the same time, they expose systemic barriers: regulatory constraints, market access limitations, and integration into global supply chains.
Program
The event will feature two panel discussions, during which participants will address:
— Ukraine’s integration into global defense supply chains;
— opportunities and risks of arms exports;
— the role of artificial intelligence and questions of digital sovereignty;
— prospects for the development of Ukraine’s defense tech sector.
Speakers
Confirmed speakers include:
— Oleksandr Bazar, co-founder of the Kyiv Institute of National Interest;
— Yaroslav Bozhko, head of the Center for Policy Studies “Doktryna”;
— Oleh Zaiarny, Academic Advisor of the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation, Doctor of Law;
— Dmytro Korniienko, founder of the analytical community Resurgam;
— Yurii Lomkivskyi, co-founder of the IRON defense technology cluster;
— Pavlo Mykhayliuk, Director of Ecosystem Development at UNIT.City;
— Kateryna Frolova, Head of the Global Government Technology Centre (GGTC) Kyiv.

The discussion will be moderated by Yehor Ostapov, co-founder of the Kyiv Institute of National Interest.
Details
The event will take place at 4 Volodymyrska Street. The discussion will serve as a platform for expert conversation on Ukraine’s strategic development priorities amid the transformation of the global order, where the convergence of defense technologies, innovation, and public policy defines new opportunities for the country. The topic of artificial intelligence is particularly timely — as we previously wrote, the Foundation is already advancing legislative initiatives on AI in the judiciary.
