Oleksii Potapenko is an outstanding painter, graphic artist and muralist, a native of Vovchansk in Kharkiv region, destroyed by war. His “Breads” series is a quiet but extraordinarily powerful meditation on the farming tradition that for centuries shaped Ukrainian character, our identity and resilience. In these works, bread appears as a symbol of home, fertility, the pain of loss and at the same time — hope for revival.

The exhibition opened on November 21, on the evening of the Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Holodomor. Within the event, the historical-artistic dialogue “Candle of Memory” was also held.

The paintings for the exhibition were provided by Lesia Kocherhina — for which we are sincerely and deeply grateful. It is precisely such exhibitions and events that add special magic to our space: here the history of Mazepa and Orlyk, art, modernity and living emotions interweave, creating a place for reflection, healing and inspiration. Oleksii Potapenko’s “Breads” remind us that even in the darkest times, the memory of the people, its roots and hope continue to live — like that eternal bread on the Ukrainian table.
