Khoreia Kozatska to Perform at Presentation of Yaroslav Faizulin’s Book “Behind the Scenes of the Crime. The Assassination of Symon Petliura”
The National Museum of the History of Ukraine and the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation invite you to a performance by the band “Khoreia Kozatska” (Cossack Choreia), which will take place as part of the presentation of the new book by historian and Director of the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine Yaroslav Faizulin, “Behind the Scenes of the Crime. The Assassination of Symon Petliura”. The musical part of the event will be dedicated to honoring the memory of the prominent statesman, Chairman of the Directorate and Chief Otaman of the Army and Navy of the UNR Symon Petliura, as well as the soldiers of the UNR Army and their modern successors — the Defense Forces of Ukraine, who today continue the struggle for the independence of the state.

Led by Taras Kompanichenko, the band “Khoreia Kozatska” has for many years been researching and reconstructing the ancient Ukrainian musical heritage from the Middle Ages to the mid-20th century. The ensemble performs all its works on authentic instruments — the kobza, bandura, hurdy-gurdy, lute, fidel and old-world wind instruments. The program of the evening will be dedicated to the era of the Ukrainian struggle for independence of the 1920s: in the hall of the exhibition “Path of Heroes. In Memory of Symon Petliura”, the musicians will perform riflemen’s, insurgent and recruit songs and military marches, recreated from archival sheet music sources and songbooks of that time.
