Dialogue on Ukraine in Prague: Yelchenko and Prokopyuk Meet with the Community
On May 4, 2025, the Goethe-Institut — one of Prague’s key cultural venues — hosted a meeting with representatives of the Ukrainian community in the Czech Republic as part of the “Current Dialogues by Rostyslav Prokopyuk” project. The event brought together participants interested in strategic questions of Ukraine’s development and its role in the world.

Organizers and Event Format
The event was organized by the Ukrainian Institute in Prague, headed by Rostyslav Prokopyuk. As we previously wrote, Prokopyuk is one of the key figures in Ukrainian cultural and civic life in the Czech Republic. He conducted a public dialogue with the guest of the event — Ukrainian diplomat and head of international policy research at the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation, Volodymyr Yelchenko. The open conversation format allowed for a combination of expert discussion and direct engagement with the Ukrainian community’s questions.
Key Topics of Discussion
The focus of the meeting centered on issues that are critically important for Ukrainians abroad today: internal processes in Ukraine under wartime conditions, prospects for EU relations, the dynamics of European partners’ support in light of shifts in US policy, and the demand for Ukrainian expertise in the fields of defense and security.
Participants received detailed responses on all topics. Special attention was given to the initiative to limit and end Russia’s unlawful participation in the UN. It was emphasized that this is not only a Ukrainian interest, but a matter of restoring the principles of international law and trust in global institutions.
Cooperation with the Goethe-Institut
The event also served as a platform for professional dialogue between institutions. Volodymyr Yelchenko discussed with the leadership of the Goethe-Institut potential areas of cooperation — in particular, the implementation of joint projects aimed at promoting Ukrainian topics in the fields of culture and international policy.
Significance for the Ukrainian Diaspora
The meeting in Prague demonstrated the high level of interest among the Ukrainian community in strategic questions of the country’s development and its role in the world. As we reported, Prague has repeatedly served as a platform for important discussions about Ukraine’s future — and this meeting became yet another confirmation of the importance of systematic dialogue between Ukraine and its international partners.
