Second Meeting of the ‘Roots and Wings: History That Unites’ Programme in Prague
On November 15–17, the second educational meeting of the mentorship programme “Roots and Wings: History That Unites” took place in Prague.

This is an educational initiative for Ukrainian female teachers who work with children abroad during the war and forced displacement. The programme is organised with the support of the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation in cooperation with the Ukrainian Institute in Prague.
The programme’s aim is to help teachers maintain children’s connection with Ukraine through language, history and culture. Each meeting is devoted to a separate content block that teachers can apply in their daily work.
The second meeting focused on the theme “How to Talk to Students About Tragedies”, developed by Natalia Omelchuk — historian, educator and coordinator of educational programmes at the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation.
Working with tragedies is difficult. Especially when children are studying in another country, going through adaptation and daily confronting fears connected with the war. The course’s task is to show teachers how to speak about difficult topics honestly, simply and with sensitivity to children’s feelings.
The Foundation’s team prepared workbooks for participants — practical materials for individual and group work. This made the training structured and accessible.
