Pylyp Orlyk Week: Ukraine’s Voice of Statehood in Europe

To mark the birthday of Pylyp Orlyk, Pylyp Orlyk Week was held in Kyiv — a series of public events combining history, culture and a contemporary perspective on Ukrainian statehood.

The aim of the initiative was to deepen knowledge of Orlyk’s legacy, popularise his ideas of statehood, freedom and responsibility, and to show their relevance in a contemporary Ukrainian and European context.

Programme of the Week

Excursion and lecture at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra — October 25, 11:00. Topic: “Ukraine’s Voice in Europe. Why Pylyp Orlyk’s Legacy Matters Today”. Lecturer: Yaroslav Zatyliuk, Candidate of Historical Sciences.

Open lecture “Pylyp Orlyk: A Hetman’s Fate, A Cossack Fortune” — October 28, 14:40. Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Lecturer: Olena Bachynska, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor.

Public discussion “Ukraine’s Voice in Europe. How Pylyp Orlyk’s Legacy Is Useful Today” — October 28, 18:30. Pylyp Orlyk Foundation office. Participants: Olena Bachynska, Oleksii Sokyrko, Maryna Trattner. Moderator: Serhii Stukanov.

Outcomes

Pylyp Orlyk Week became a meaningful event that combined historical analysis with a modern vision of Ukrainian statehood. The events held contributed to promoting Orlyk’s ideas as part of the European political tradition and strengthening public interest in Ukrainian history and diplomatic heritage.
