The “Breads” series is a profound conversation about Ukrainian land, labour and memory. In Potapenko’s canvases, bread appears as a symbol of life, home and the indestructible bond of a person with their roots. This is a quiet but extraordinarily powerful meditation on the farming tradition that for centuries shaped the Ukrainian character.

The exhibition opening took place on the same evening when the Foundation held the historical-artistic dialogue “Candle of Memory”, dedicated to the theme of the Holodomor. The combination of art and a conversation about national memory created a special space — about silence, dignity and human resilience.

The exhibition at the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation served as a reminder: bread is not merely a ritual or everyday occurrence. It is the memory of a people, its history, pain and hope that continue to live even in the most difficult times.

The paintings for the exhibition were provided by Lesia Kocherhina. The “Breads” exhibition will remain at the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation space for a month so that anyone wishing to see Oleksii Potapenko’s works and touch their symbolic depth may do so.
