‘Candle of Memory’: Historical-Artistic Dialogue for the Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Holodomor
On November 21 in Kyiv, the historical-artistic dialogue “Candle of Memory” was held, dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of Victims of the Holodomor. The event combined historical conversation, performances by Ukrainian artists and a presentation of an art exhibition, creating a complete space for reflection on the tragedy of the Holodomor, mechanisms of memory and cultural continuity.

Historical conversation: on the Holodomor, resistance and memory culture
- Volodymyr Viatrovych — historian, writer;
- Volodymyr Tylishshchak — Deputy Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory;
- Andrii Ivanets — Candidate of Historical Sciences, leading research associate at the Holodomor Museum;
- Oleksandr Shcherba — Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to South Africa;
- Ihor Ostash — Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.
The conversation addressed the deliberate nature of Soviet policy, instruments of repression, the demographic consequences of the Holodomor and forms of Ukrainian resistance. Special attention was given to questions of contemporary memory culture: how Ukraine builds narratives that resist decades of silencing.
The event was initiated by Anzhelika Rudnytska. It was organised by the arts agency “Teretoria A” and the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation, with support from the State Agency for Culture Promotion of Ukraine and the Centre of Folklore and Ethnography of the National Research and Educational Institute at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
