EdCamp Vienna in Vienna: “Roots and Wings” Programme Among Topics at International Educators’ Forum
An international educational event EdCamp Vienna took place in Vienna, dedicated to the development of Ukrainian education abroad. The theme of the gathering was: “The Power in Each and Every One: How to Build a Cohesive Ukrainian Education Abroad.” Natalia Omelchuk, educational programmes coordinator of the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation, took part in the event.

During the teachers’ panel, Natalia Omelchuk presented the mentorship programme “Koreni ta Kryla: A History That Unites” (Roots and Wings), which the Pylyp Orlyk Foundation is currently implementing in two countries for Ukrainian educational communities abroad. The team is now working on extending the programme into the next academic year.
Challenges and Development Strategy for Ukrainian Schools Abroad
During the discussion, participants spoke about the challenges of teaching Ukrainian history in host countries, the need to develop a long-term strategy for Ukrainian schools abroad, and modern methods of working with children and teenagers.
“An important issue that emerged was the need for a strategy for developing schools abroad — from Ukraine. Not only verification, which is an important and necessary step today, but a comprehensive strategy for the development and organisation of Ukrainian educational communities founded at different periods,” noted Natalia Omelchuk.
The Vienna event brought together Ukrainian educators, experts, and school directors from across Europe to discuss the future of Ukrainian education amid forced migration and the preservation of children’s cultural identity abroad. As we previously reported, the “Roots and Wings” programme was also endorsed by the Ukrainian Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
